VNA has been providing help for people with home care needs in Lawrence and the surrounding area since 1969. Hospice improves the quality of life through dignity and compassion, helping patients at the end of their lives to achieve physical and emotional comfort. Hospice neither prolongs life nor hastens death. Rather, it provides special care to address the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the patient and family.
Our interdisciplinary team works closely with the patient, physician and caregivers to develop an individualized plan of care, no matter where the patient calls home.
Physician-Directed Services
Our board certified medical director works with our interdisciplinary team to create and review an individualized plan of care for each patient.
Nursing Care
Along with the attending physician, our caring, medically trained professionals work together to provide a plan of care that helps manage pain and physical symptoms while providing needed medications, supplies and equipment. Comfort and dignity are enhanced during the end-of-life moments.
Nursing Assistant Care
Our nursing aides help with daily living activities including bathing, grooming and skin care.
Social Work
Our social workers provide emotional support and counseling as well as assistance with financial matters.
Bereavement Care
Our compassionate care continues after the patient has passed on. We offer comprehensive emotional and spiritual support and grief therapy and guidance to family members and caregivers on both an individual and group basis.
Volunteer Care
Our caring volunteers afford respite services by engaging the patient in a variety of circumstance-appropriate activities, allowing the family or caregiver time to handle errands and other personal matters.

This electronic relay device allows the in-home client to signal for help in an emergency.

Who Pays for Hospice Care?
Medicare, Medicaid and most private insurance companies typically pay for the following:
• 24-hour-a-day, seven-day-a-week on-call care and support

We Honor Veterans
Visiting Nurses is proud to be a We Honor Veterans partner. We Honor Veterans is a collaborative awareness campaign through the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization and the Department of Veterans Affairs. As a collaborative member, the Visiting Nurses Hospice program has committed to identifying patients with military experience, increasing their access to veteran services by strengthening our relationship with the local Veterans Association, providing veteran-centric education for staff and volunteers, focusing on recruiting new volunteers with military backgrounds to serve our veterans and by honoring our veterans through formal acknowledgement ceremonies.
